Assignment #11

Is the purpose clearly stated or easy to determine? If not, why might the composer have decided not to make the purpose obvious?- Believe stein does make her purpose clearly stated because as i mentioned before it was clearly stated on page 280 at the end of the third paragraph "This essay contributes to an understanding of the integral role ads play in contributing to and drawing on ideological and cultural discourse." (Stein)

What does the composer assume the audience knows or believes?- Believe that Stein expects everyone to know what the terms she uses mean. I mean I had trouble understanding the term and figuring out how they fit in with everything, and it seem my classmates also had trouble understanding them also. I think if she would have defined them in the text; it would have made her essay longer and more easier to understand for people who don't understand the means of the terms. The term "ideological and cultural discourse." are just examples of words that no one in my class understood

Is the composer using a tone of voice appropriate to the purpose?- for an academic article i believe she uses the right kind of tone through out her entire essay. her controlling purpose for the article was a really sophisticated way to put it. "This essay contributes to an understanding of the integral role ads play in contributing to and drawing on ideological and cultural discourse." (Stein  280)

how you see ALL of these writerly choices working together to affect your interpretation of the text.- i believe all of these writerly choices connect to the academic criteria she had to fulfill in her class. We may not be able to understand them but as we expand out vocabulary I think we might be able to understand it. But for now it just confused me, I like how she divides each part of her essay into sections. I found that very interesting and helpful.

Assignment #10

1.) Why does she use 3 types of movies (Blade Runner, Wizard Of Oz, and Metropolis) in the article? (that just confuses me.)

-The academic text done by stein on "The Macintosh ad" article to me feels like she just describes the ad to the readers making them picture or help them try to understand what the ad was about so that she can help them better understand where she is pulling all of her arguments from. She also brings in other sources like theories from other sources to prove her point. I believe she tries to explain to people how the first time the ad had played on the Superbowl event back in 1984, that it revolutionized how people play ads today.

Why do you think Stein might have wanted to research and write this essay?- I believe she wanted to write and do research about this ad was because it was the first one to be done, and from that point on it had revolutionized marketing corporations to start playing ads when the Superbowl played. Even today they play a lot more ads on the Superbowl than the actual Superbowl. So i think she wanted to point out how the marketing corporations developed causing us to develop also.

What do you think she might have hoped readers would feel, think, or do while and after reading it?- To be honest when i had first read the article I was rather confused and bored. But given the criteria of the article having to be an academic text that's just a given. I honestly don't think she had anything for us to do about or with her article  I just think it was just informing us about the greatest moment for marketing. I think stein wanted us to think about how much our lives have evolved from way back then to now.

What makes you think that? Include the passages from Stein’s essay that inform your answers.- there is one sentence that made me think that it was on 280 "This essay contributes to an understanding of the integral role ads play in contributing to and drawing on ideological and cultural discourse." (Stein) When i had seen that sentence i felt like everything was going to come back to that. No matter what i read it all can back to that one sentence alone.

Sedaris's CP

I felt that Sedaris's controlling purpose is to point out what we as humans do without us consciously knowing it, and that is judging people. I felt that because through out the text her hears people judging everything to politics, fashion and parenting styles. I believe that it is true. But i also felt a hint of his controlling purpose to also be talking about how we persuade others into thinking that we are right, The reason being is because he even states it in last page of his article in the top few paragraphs, "If my own little mind is nailed shut, why wouldn't theirs be?" (Sedaris 277) that had made me think that we use judging as a persuading kind of thing to others as well. "Don't tell me I don't know how to hate." (Sedaris 277) Found in the middle of the last column of the article.

Assignment #9

--Who are the people that you see yourself engaging with?- I kind of feel myself trying to take on both sides of the arguments thinking of possibilities that other people could be thinking. I play scenarios in my head and think of how i might be able to help that problem. I don't see myself taking any side of the argument but i do try and add quotes or information from the text that makes me think a certain way. My direction and thinking goes off of what the article presents and the facts that they happen to prove today in society.

--Whose ideas and writing are you building relations with?- I try to think of my own ideas or go off of what opinions I hear in class. From what everyone seems to experience I try and think of explanations on why they felt that way. Or what exactly made them feel that way. I try and connect all of my writing back to our recent society. I feel as if it is connected to recent events in peoples lives it will have them interested in wanting to read more and finding out why we people do the things we do. Like me wanting to go into psychology because I wanted to know how our emotions work.

--In what ways does your writing work to make that relationship productive?- As i mentioned I feel as if connecting what i had read and trying to tie them into recent events, it'll grab readers attention. Well i try to make it like as if i was reading it. Why would i want to read something that has nothing to do with my life or my interests? Plus if it was boring it wouldn't make me want to read it more. I find it more effective when people can related to the things they are reading because they bring their own personality into what they are reading, and actually think about what they are reading.

--How does your work engage in the ethical dimension of communication?- I couldn't really find a definition of what ethical dimension of communication was. But from what I'm guessing I would take it as different ways to get your thoughts or feelings across either through via internet, book, magazines or television. But i guess depending on what certain things are presented in the article being present would determine where the article will be placed. Since my interpretative essays are going to be presented to readers at school to determine whether or not i pass. I try and put my all and every part of my thinking into my texts. I guess i try and make them college sufficient  I may not be able to get it right away but i think as long as i try my hardest thats the best i can ask for right?

Assignment #6-choices

I believe one of her writerly choices was introducing what taxidermy was. I would have never known what taxidermy was, or even bothered to learn more about taxidermy. Being a journalist makes you have to cover stories that is out of your norm. If i hadn;t read her article I would still to this day think that taxidermy was all about people killing animals.

Another writierly choice that she presents is when she starts to show the passion and commitment that the taxidermists have for taxidermy. She shows another side that people who would have never known what taxidermy was would think it was just crazy people playing with dead animals and sometimes even slaughtering them. But that was the reason why Orlean had wrote the article was to inform them that there is more to see than what your eyes are actually seeing.

Another writerly choice Orlean uses is her term of words. In one point she uses the words "zoology nerd" At this point she is trying to describe what a taxidermist has to be able to do and be really good at it. She uses Nerd because everyone knows the term as to what a nerd actually is. A nerd is basically a person who knows so much about a topic and knows what to do and is quick to answer any question on the subject. I believe it adds a bit of comedy also. Everyone laughs at the word "nerd" so maybe that's what she was trying to get at?

I think when they are all put together properly it makes orlean's paper amazing. It was very interesting.

Assignment 6

When I had first started reading the article, I felt a little confused on what she was actually trying to get at. I read it several of times and still didn't understand, until we had discussed it in a group. After listening to different theories or opinions, I started to pick up on things I hadn't noticed before. When I first read the article I felt that is was a journalist tone I was getting. I thought it was a journalist tone due to the fact that so much information was presented in the beginning and there was little to no emotion coming from Orlean herself. Orlean didn't use much emotion throughout the whole essay, which made me to believe she was forced to do it. In the beginning it was boring because you don't want to have to read something that someone was forced to do because then it would have no emotion to it. It would then make the writer themselves not care about it. I never really cared much about taxidermy and thought it was just hunters just going out to kill animals. But Orlean’s essay had informed me that, there was much more to it than just killing the animals. But after reading Orlean’s article I found out that some of the animals died of natural death, then the taxidermist’s would take the body and mantle them into a pose. A lot of people would just assume that they would kill the animals due to the fact that mostly deer pop up in the images and hunters kneeling next to the deer with his or her gun in the other hand, stating it was a good kill, and then mantling them up on the wall. Due to that knowledge I don't see taxidermy the same way I use too, which changed the way I felt and thought about it and also Orlean. As I read further into the text I thought it had changed when I started to notice some of her emotions coming through and feeling the passion that the people had for taxidermy. "Taxidermists seem to make little distinction between loving animals that are alive and loving ones that are not. “I love deer," one of the champions in the whitetail division said to me. "They're my babies."(Orlean) Even though this person would most likely come off as a crazy person it shows how much love she has for animals alive or dead. But on the other hand some would consider her obsessed with the animal, like a “cat-lady” having so many cats and caring so much for them. Should we expect her to become a taxidermist? She is no different from the “deer-lady.”
The very last paragraph of the essay was the one that caught my attention the most it was basically the last sentence talking about a still born Bengal-tiger cub. "Otherwise, the room was Biblical tranquil, the lion at last lying down with the Corsican lamb, the family of jackdaws in everlasting, unrequited pursuit of a big green beetle, and the stillborn Bengal-tiger cub magically revived, its face in an eternal snarl, alive-looking although it had never lived." (Orlean) The words that crushed my heart "Alive-looking although it had never lived." As an animal lover one of my favorite animals so happened to be tigers and I felt my heart break into two. I also think that , that last sentence also shows the Orleans feelings towards Taxidermy, even though it doesn’t have the word “I” in there , but the structure of the sentence made it seem like it was a personal sentence coming from the heart.

assignment #4 Choices

I believe where Sedaris had put the article itself, was a very big writerly choice he made. As i mentioned before I personally think that magazines are were authors write to vent or criticize the world we live in. Like the relationship between Justin Beber and Selena Gomez. People write a lot of things about their relationship, true or not. Its nothing but gossip, people complaining, people talking about how horrible someone looks in a dress. So since his article had people doing that exact thing the people had done to Sedaris then why not put it in a Magazine were we hear about that stuff more often?

Sedaris had also made it into something that kept readers attention by making little jokes here and there. But there was always risked that he was taking. But it was also a good thing to do because it kept readers attention. I for one don't like reading things that bore me. I tend to get sidetracked and forget why i am even reading it. Also what I even got done reading.

He mentions politics, and criticism about what people wear, and even teenage pregnancy. All of those problems we are having today. We never really realize what goes on in the world unless it is physically happening to us. Teenage pregnancy is a very touchy subject everyone touches and talks about. Some people look down on the parents or pregnant teenagers and criticize their way of parenting. AND EVEN POLITICS. oh my god don't get me started on politics there is so much going on with politics. Even criticize the president because of the economy or wars and think they can do so much better. But how can we really say we can do better when we don't even know what it is that a president has to do or deal with? And magazine articles have people criticizing famous actors or singers with the dresses or clothes they make...

I think all of these choices can relate to each other. For him to get it noticed he had to put it in a magazine. Then the stuff that was mentioned in the article matches what actually goes on in magazines. So complaining+ gossiping+ criticizing = a good story and belongs in a magazine.

Assignment #4

Assignment #4

I had never really understood Sedaris' "Standing By" article. I had to listen to so many opinions from my peers in the class discussion. But still they never really caught my interest on something to write about, because it wasn't something that I felt from the text. After finding that the classes opinions didn't satisfy my needs to see what his controlling purpose was I had read the article at least 5 times. I had finally found something that I was interesting in writing about. Sedaris had put this article in a magazine and what from what I personally know, magazines are the center of drama or gossip. Since Sedaris comments on how people judge each other and complain about things that, they think they know how to do better themselves. I believe he points out two things we as humans tend to do conscious or unconsciously. It is who we are on the inside, no one can say they haven't judged someone. Maybe to people outside of their heads, but they soon realize that they are only lying to themselves. Sedaris hears so many complainants and venting that he felt that maybe writing about it would help him consciously and point out how we as humans criticize ourselves and others. We are no different from one another so why do we complain about everything, appearance, economy, political, and even family wise. I think Sedaris touches everyone conscious or not. Complaining is something that everyone does.  I believe he wants to point it out, I don't think he is trying to change the way we are its just something that had him thinking on why we act a certain way the way we do.

[Group work] Reflection

[Group work] Reflection

Part uno (part 1): My overall thinking of my group work: To be honest I really don't think I did well with working with my group. But then again I had forgot my materials in Alabama, so I really didn't get my groups to think on much of my thoughts or ideas. My thoughts and ideas were different to what they really talked about. I felt like I my ideas weren't really smart enough ideas for them. I really don't like working in groups, I mean I do like listening to other people's ideas, but working in groups kind of scares me and puts me under pressure. Listening to others ideas helped me out a lot with my "LifeLike" essay and it helped me out even now. Just I feel like I learned more about the text from other groups than my own.

Part dos (part two): Intro one-pager: I really liked the way they drew their image. To be honest that was the most interesting thing we had to do out of the assignment. But this group had gave me ideas to focus on. They had introduced Stein's thoughts on the Macintosh ad and I believe it helped me out a lot. They had introduced that the ad played much part in society and culture. I can focus on that alone. I couldn't find the question that they had introduced so I can't respond to it.

Theoretical Framework: I really liked they question they introduced and the image or symbol they had drew out. it was cute. The question was "Does Stein portray the ad as a movement toward revolution or does it go back to the idea of consumers being subjects to brainwashing?" I believe that they way Stein introduces the article about they Macintosh ad. made it seem like it was a critical movement in the Technology era. But she gives a subtly hint about ads works. Ads have a criteria to follow just as her essay had a specific criteria she had to follow. The object of a ad is suppose to get the audiences attention and make them feel like they cant live without the object being shown. I think she tries to show both aspects of the ads and the product of the computer in her essay.

Part tres (part three): I guess after reading the one pagers i feel like with the help I am able to get somewhere. I believe i can introduce the ways the ad had helped companies build and create better ads. I believe i can get somewhere with it. I think that the one pagers could connect with my groups one pager is the fact that Stein used so many examples to prove and hopped that at least the reader would have seen at least one of the movies. I guess you could say that, that was a thing I learned from my particular group.

Assignment #8

Assignment #8
I really liked how most of all the opinions on Orleans "Lifelike" article was centered around her explaining and educating the ones who don't know what taxidermy was, to the readers who don't know, know about taxidermy. I am surprised to see how everyone's essay will turn out due to the fact that everyone seems to have the same thinking on Orlean's article. The tones seemed to be kind of the same in a way on how Orlean's tone of the writing came out. Everyone suspected that it was a journalists tone.

My own reflection.
Since I haven't really attempted to write my essay due to the fact that iIwasn't that confident in her purpose of the article until now. I think I will focus how my attention of the whole pathos, ethos, and logos of her essay. She had did well with the three and playing with the audiences emotions. I will try very hard to be more creative with my writing and have a very formative tone. Making myself sound sophisticated and trustworthy and show how much work and passion I put into the text.

Assignment #7

Assignment 7
I didn't quite understand the The article of "LifeLike" By Orlean. At first i felt like it was just a report story due to the tone of the essay by starting out so informational. I kind of thought she was doing it because she had to, which in turn my theory was correct seeing how my teacher had told us she was actually a reporter. The essay started out with no feelings whats so ever but then the essay started to increase with feelings and emotions. I didn't quite caught that when i had read it by myself. But when my teacher had decided we would do a class review on the article, I had started to realize bits and pieces on what Orleans purpose could have been.

Questions
1.)Why does Orlean put little to no emotion into her writing until the middle of her essay?
This question had struck me when the class and I were in the middle of the class review. I noticed it when the class was going through the ethos, pathos, and logos. I didn't quite understand it when i read it on my own. I was in the group of pathos, which was getting a reader from not caring to caring. I never knew what Taxidermy was until i looked the word up on Google. But when i had saw the images come up I knew what it was just never knew what it was called.
I believe that Orlean had done that on purpose. I never really cared much about taxidermy and thought it was just hunters just going out to kill. Her essay had informed me that, there was much more to it than just killing the animals. Some of the animals died of natural death. A lot of people would just assume that they would kill the animals due to the fact that mostly deer pop up in the images and hunters kneeling next to the deer with his gun in the other hand, stating it was a good kill, then mantling them up on the wall. Due to that knowledge I don't see taxidermy the same way i use to you. Which by then changed the way i felt about it and also Orlean.
Like I mentioned in the question, Orlean didn't use much emotion throughout to essay, which made me to believe she was forced to do it. In the beginning it was boring because you don't want to have to read something that someone was forced to do because then it would have no emotion to it because the writer themselves wouldn't care about it. But then that thought changed when i started to notice some of her emotions coming through and feeling the passion that the people had for taxidermy. "Taxidermists seem to make little distinction between loving animals that are alive and loving ones that are not. "I love deer," one of the champions in the whitetail division said to me. "They're my babies.""(Orlean) Even though this person would most likely come of as a crazy person it shows how much love she has for animals alive or dead. The very last paragraph of the essay was the one that caught my attention the most it was basically the last sentence talking about a still born Bengal-tiger cub. "Otherwise, the room was Biblical tranquil, the lion at last lying down with the Corsican lamb, the family of jackdaws in everlasting, unrequited pursuit of a big green beetle, and the stillborn Bengal-tiger cub magically revived, its face in an eternal snarl, alive-looking although it had never lived." (orlean) The words that crushed my heart "Alive-looking although it had never lived." As a animal lover one of my favorite animals so happened to be tigers and I felt my heart break into two. It is true that when we see animals die in a movie we get all emotional but when it come to human dying in a movie we tend to laugh or have little to no emotions at all. I personally think that Orlean used that sentence to play with the readers emotions. Throughout her essay it went from little to no emotion, to somewhat emotion, and to a full out what emotional strike.
2.)Why does she start out giving so much information about taxidermy?
I believe Orlean explains a lot about taxidermy so it builds up her ethos throughout the essay. Ethos is basically making people see that the writer is a trustworthy person. The more information she puts about taxidermy the more people will know and see that she is actually putting effort and trying to understand taxidermy to the best of her abilities.

"LifeLike"

"LifeLike"
“Lifelike”
After reading the article known as “Lifelike,” I felt a little disturbed by it. The article described how the author of the article felt and saw at Taxidermy Championship. I had no clue what a Taxidermy Championship was so I had done some research and had looked it up on Google (Google is great). Taxidermy is the art of preparing, stuffing, and mounting the skins of dead animals for either scientific study or just for show. In this case due to the article a lot of it is done only for show. Which I felt kind of disturbing…

I had a very hard time understanding what the author’s purpose was. It seemed like the author enjoyed the craftsmanship of the dead animals but and the same time felt a little bit of disturbance and a little saddened. In the beginning of the article she goes on about the way thetaxidermist talk amongst one another. She had introduce a website “Taxidermy.net” and found some statements that I found pretty disturbing. “I am in need of several pair of frozen goat feet!”, “Hi! I have up to 300 sets of goat feet and up to 1000 set of sheep feet per month. Drop me an email at frozencritters.com ....or give me a call and we can discuss your needs.”. Those two statements had really sent chills down my spine. I mean how weird is it to have “300 sets” of goat feet frozen? I believe that she admires how much these taxidermists put into the mantle but I also feel like she is saddened by it. I felt that moment of sadness in the last sentence of the article. ”Otherwise, the room was Biblically tranquil, the lion at last lying down with the Corsican lamb, the family of jackdaws in everlasting, unrequited pursuit of a big green beetle, and the stillborn Bengal-tiger cub magically revived, its face in an eternal snarl, alive-looking although it had never lived.”  The very last statement, “Alive-looking although it had never lived” At this point she was referring to the baby Bengal-tiger cub. That was the moment where I had felt the sadness. If we were animals and killed as a young cub how would we feel being killed to only be shown off to others?

Although I am uncertain about her motive or purpose, I still felt that interested yet then quickly turned to sadness feeling. She started out the article as a information and an exclusive seat to see what taxidermy is all about. That was when I felt interested but then that last statement as I mentioned before made it become sad.

Questions
1.) How was your reaction to the text, and what do you think the authors purpose was?
2.) Does being an animal lover make you rethink what is going on in this text?

Madi's Reflection

Reflecting on Pa Houa Moua's essay

After reading Pa Houa Moua essay on David Sedaris' "Standing By" article. I found it rather interesting how her essay was more reflecting on what I thought Sedaris' purpose was. She brings words like "Judging, and Blaming" into her essay. Those words make me feel like she felt the same way. I also think her quotations that she uses in her essay was interesting also. It goes with her purpose and she actually writes what she is thinking. I feel like as if I can feel where she is coming from with her opinions on the essay.

I dont believe nothing came to be a surprised to me seeing as I had thought the same way when i had read the essay.

I believe that Moua had a very good reflection on the essay seeing as she was able to connect the poem Sedaris' had mentioned in the text. I couldn't quite understand why the poem was in there. But she had pointed out a specific phrase in the poem. "All it takes is one dumb fuck, trigger-happy, with a six-pack and bad aim, to generate the spark that turns the world to flames." (Sedaris 276) I didnt quite understand the poem until she had explained how no matter what good or bad thing, people see and feel differently about that certain thing that person has done.

 My own essay reflection
My own essay was rather kind of mixed in a sense. I could never quite get a grip on how to order my essays. I believe what i should do is start an essay template and work my way from there. But In my Introduction, I basically introduced what the article was about, just in case people who didn't read Sedaris' "Standing By" article could at least get a feeling as to what the article was about; before i start ranting on about it. I used Evidence that could actually help and support my essay more specifically.

Assignment #3

Assignment # 3
After reading Sedaris’ text “Standing By,” I was rather confused on what his overall purpose of the text could be. As I read I thought to myself, “Why is he putting all this in here?” I know people experience those “Light Bulb” moments; nothing made sense until I had gotten to the very last page of the article, a sentence had caught my eye. “If my own little mind is nailed shut, why wouldn’t theirs be?” (Sedaris 277) From that sentence alone, I felt that “Light Bulb” moment, because in the text he goes on about listening or being talked to in the airport, where people are judging, blaming and complete complaining. I believe that he tries to help us understand how we as people try to persuade others with our opinions, unconsciously or consciously.
On Page 277, there was a sentence that actually made me think after I had got done reading. “Like What if this is who we truly are and the airport’s just a forum that allows us to be our real selves, not just hateful but gloriously so?” (Sedaris) As I mentioned before Sedaris was introduced to so many complaints and so many view points, but the only similarity all of the complaints had were all negative. Throughout the text there was not one single complaint he heard. I believe that Sedaris is wondering if everyone just finds something to complain about. Or do we use judgment or criticism just to start out a conversation, or does it just happen in airports?
I believe Sedaris wants the readers to actually think about how we as people are quick to judge someone or criticize them. Is it really what being human is all about? But I also believe that he wants us to see how our judgments and criticisms are actually our forms of persuading someone to think and dislike something we dislike. “It had been on the radio and in all the papers, but because I don’t drive, and I always thought that car dealerships were ugly, I’d either turned the page or let my mind wander, which was unfortunate, as I’d have loved to have turned around and given those two what for” (Sedaris 277). I had really thought about that sentence for a long time wondering why was it important to him to just turn and argue, but then the next sentence made me realize why he had mentioned it. “Then again, even if I were informed, what’s the likelihood of changing anyone’s opinion, especially a couple of strangers?” (Sedaris 277) After that I felt as if he was pointing out how persuading someone works. You have to be informed on what it is you’re talking about. If you are arguing about something with someone you have to know what exactly it is you are talking about and have facts and evidence to prove it, especially if you are to try and change someone’s mind.

Questions
1.) Don't think we are always quick to judge someone, even though we dont say we do?
2.) Don't we usually start out random conversations when it gets quiet talking about what someone is wearing or how they appear?

Sedaris "Standing By"

Sedaris "Standing by"

Sedaris’ “Standing By”
The article by David Sedaris named “Standing By” was a rather interesting piece of work. The article, I believe was a mixer of serious issues yet with a bit of humor mixed into it. The authors article starts out in an airport and meets many people, who talk to him about other people criticizing politics and on the appearance of others.  Sedaris then goes on thinking and making humorous jokes about the things happening around him. In the end points out a very strong point. “If my own little mind is nailed shut, why wouldn’t theirs be?” (Sedaris 277)

Assignment 2

I have taken English 101 in my previous semester and had unfortunately failed the class. I am hoping for a better start of the class. I don't know what i lacked in my previous class but, since i am in a new class with a new teacher, maybe she can explain fully on what is required and expected on the essays. I would personally be fine with getting a C plus in the class. I am also hoping for a better understanding of composing better papers.

Since i have already taken the course before I have also read the Introduction book to the class. I thought it was kind of half and half with the student and teachers comments. I didn't have such a good teacher my previous class. I meet with her and ask about my essays, but she really didn't have much to say. She had told me my essay were good and that i was putting in what i needed. Then come to find out i failed the "FINAL PORTFOLIO." Which makes me go back to the thought of it going both ways. If a student wants to pass, we as students have to rely on the teacher as the teacher relies on us to do the work

I believe the writing that i will write in English 101 would make it easier for me to make essays and think critically on texts that i read in my other classes. Since i will be going into the field of psychology i think it is mandatory for me as a psychologist to know very intelligent vocabulary. I would have to do field work and studies on my subject and then right a report about my findings. Which means writing more essays. The more information I learn in English 101 the better my chances will be for becoming a writer (maybe) and a efficient psychologist.

Introduction

My name is Maricela, but I have many nicknames such as: Cella, Chells, Lufi, Pika (cause I like Pokémon and love Pikachu), Madi, and Marie. I would prefer Lufi though. I’m originally from Racine, Wisconsin. There’s one absolute thing I love about Milwaukee and that would be downtown Milwaukee. I love all the lights that come on at night. I love how it just gleams in the night sky. I don’t know I just like lights. Since I have lived in Milwaukee most of my life, Downtown Milwaukee has always been my favorite thing about Milwaukee. I have 3 sisters and 1 older brother; I am the oldest out of the girls. One of my sisters had pasted in a car accident we got into about 10 years ago. We have a year old dog by the name of Molly, she is a German Shepard chow mix, and I have a cat by the name of Lufia. I like to draw, play games, hang out with friends, listen to music, and watch horror movies when I have the time; which is hardly ever because of school. I really don’t have any wishes I could wish for, they would all end out badly in the end if we really actually think about it. I don’t know just my feelings on the whole “If you had one wish, what would you wish for?” question. My major is psychology. Psychology is the study of individuals’ behavior and mental health. It is very interesting to me to see how emotions and the brain work. Psychology, to be honest wasn’t even on my mind to make that field my major. My first major was becoming a veterinarian, probably since I was 8 I use to watch animal planet a lot and would watch a show called “Animal Cops.” I loved animals a lot and wanted to help them but then I noticed that I would have to put animals down and watch families cry over their injured dogs or cats. But then I had taken a psychology course in my old college and fell in love with it, so I changed my major from a pre-vet to psychology. The best class that I can remember taking was my psychology 101 class in my previous college. I had an awesome instructor and friends that I loved to be around. They made the class fun and exciting; the instructor would even let us listen to our IPods when we took an exam or quiz. Because of that I loved the class. Since I love music and psychology, it was the best of both worlds. My high school English teacher was a lot different than any other English teacher I’ve had in my life. He believed that creative writing was always the best way to teach students. I enjoyed his class also. I love writing fiction stories, I would always try but then I would get bored and stop writing (then again my writing was never good).  I enjoy reading fantasy romance books, I just love, love stories. They always excite me and make me all emotional. I’m a very big hearted, kind, and caring person. So when I see so much love and affection, I tend to get carried away. The only simile that I could say about reading is “For me…reading is like a gateway…from reality.” In the books I read, authors can create a much better and fun life in books. It takes your mind away from reality for a bit. I notice that people tend to put themselves into what they are reading, due to the “I’s” in the story and enjoy themselves. My biggest fear for college-leveled English classes would be failing. I hate failing classes because I have never failed a class in my life and since I did fail my other English class it really upset me. So I am trying to focus and do better for this semester. Oh and I get embarrassed of my writing because I know others use more sophisticated words then I do. It makes me feel like I’m not good enough to even be around them. The kind of environment I like or am more comfortable in is a fun environment. I am a shy person but once people get to know me, I am actually pretty hyper. I love to make friends and see people smile and laugh.  I like a happy environment because a stressful one is just stressful and make people have headaches and stuff. Well the only thing I could possibly think people would wonder about me is “why does she limp?” As I mention earlier in the essay, my family and I were involved in a car accident and I had serious injuries. I have scars and my leg broke in the process with many other parts. I have a drop foot, which means my nerves in my right foot don’t work. I had dropped a mini TV on my foot before and didn’t even feel a thing. So because of the drop foot I have to wear a brace on my foot which causes me to limp a bit. But beside that I am very friendly and kind. I am an awesome friend and love helping others.
